I’d like to thank everyone involved with A STATE OF MATTER exhibition last night in Austin at @volcomgarden . It was humbling to see how many of you came out to visit the gallery, and really heartwarming to take part in such an awesome display of work by three fellow artists, all of whom i have had the pleasure of sharing a friendship with over there course of my career. I much prefer these types of events, where theres’ such a strong sense of comraderie and where, as a group, a few like-minded people with semi-shared-histories, are able to combine talents and create a visual experience which is both more immediate and more powerful than a mere summing-of-parts. As artists, we work so frequently in isolation, working away days/weeks/months of our lives in a near-vacuum. Taking part in an effort that displaces that solitude in favor of collaboration is always a great reminder of how powerful the idea of community and creative-partnership can be, when so often we can feel as though that our artistic lives are fully separate and independent of one another. I’m forever in awe of such talented friends and i hope i may never take experiences like these for granted, rather allow them to drive me forward to adhere to an ever-increasing standard. Thanks and love be to Thomas, Jake, Arik, all at BRLSQ of NA, Volcom Garden, Chris, Esteban, Waterloo Records etc etc etc. (whoever i forgot) #jakebannon #thomashooper #arikroper @jbannon @thomas__hooper @arikroper @brlsq @sieben_up
